Details
Since October 2021, we have provided £8 million to extend Pupil Premium Plus style funding to children in care and care leavers in post-16 education across 58 local authority sites. In 2023 to 2024, we will provide a further £10 million to all eligible local authorities in England.
This funding is for local authorities to use to improve the education outcomes for looked-after children and care leavers at post-16. In particular, it should support improvements in:
- attendance
- retention
- attainment
This should enable them to have sustained involvement in employment, education and training.
The 2023 to 2024 grant determination letter provides:
- details of a grant to support local authorities in receipt of post-16 Pupil Premium Plus funding
- details of the amount of funding awarded to each local authority site in 2023 to 2024
- a link to statutory guidance that participating sites should follow
