Note on derived variables

Variable name Description
dv_ruralurban Rural or urban region of residence in Great Britain:

- If a valid UK postcode was provided, rural or urban region of residence was categorised by postcode using the ONS National Statistics Postcode Lookup User Guide 2021 Census Edition (RURAL_URBAN)
- If a valid UK postcode was not provided, or the postcode could not be matched in the National Statistics Postcode Lookup User Guide 2021 Census Edition, rural or urban region of residence was categorised based on questionnaire responses to RURAL
dv_region Region of residence in Great Britain:

- If a valid UK postcode was provided, region was categorised by postcode using the ONS National Statistics Postcode Lookup User Guide 2021 Census Edition (REGION)
- If a valid UK postcode was not provided, or the postcode could not be matched in the National Statistics Postcode Lookup User Guide 2021 Census Edition, region was categorised based on questionnaire responses to REGION1 and REGION2
tab_agegender Age group by gender categorisation using responses to AGE, AGEBAND, and GENDER provided in the questionnaire.
dv_dknational Acceptability for building new network infrastructure across Great Britain:

- If a response on the 7-point Likert scale (“1” Completely acceptable, “7” Completely unacceptable) was given to question NATIONAL, response to NATIONAL was used
- If “don’t know” was selected for NATIONAL, response to DKNATIONAL was used
dv_dklocal Acceptability for building new network infrastructure in local areas:

- If a response on the 7-point Likert scale (“1” Completely acceptable, “7” Completely unacceptable) was given to question LOCAL, response to LOCAL was used
- If “don’t know” was selected for LOCAL, response to DKLOCAL was used
