1. Selected bidder announced - 7 March 2014

Education Funding Agency (EFA) has provisionally appointed Interserve Kajima consortium as the selected bidder for an estimated capital value of between £100 million and £150 million contract (as published in the OJEU) for the first private finance batch procured under the Priority School Building programme (subject to the usual standstill period). The batch consists of 7 secondary schools located across Hertfordshire, Luton and Reading.

More than 8,900 pupils will benefit from the construction programme, as pupils at each school will be taught in new, purpose-built buildings.

Interserve Kajima will be responsible for the design and construction of the schools as well as the provision of maintenance and lifecycle services over a 25-year period.

The secondary schools included in this Hertfordshire, Luton and Reading batch are:

  • Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School, Hatfield, Hertfordshire (academy)
  • Goffs School, near Cheshunt, Hertfordshire (academy)
  • Kings Langley School, Kings Langley, Hertfordshire (academy)
  • Longdean School, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire (academy)
  • Reading Girls’ School, Reading, Berkshire (foundation)
  • Stopsley High School, Luton, Bedfordshire (foundation)
  • Westfield Academy, Watford, Hertfordshire (academy)

The next stage for EFA, Interserve Kajima and the schools is to engage in a 6 month detailed design Selected Bidder stage through to financial close. The target financial close date is late October 2014.

Construction is due to start from November 2014 through to March 2015, with planned completions due for August 2016.
