Documents

Details

The programme concentrates on where the UK’s expertise and strengths match India’s reform priorities and development needs. These include:

  • climate and green growth (including working with India on taking a sustainable, low carbon approach to urbanisation)
  • advocating free and fair trade through work on ease of doing business, skills, and financial services

Energy and low carbon

We are working with India to address climate change and promote clean energy. The programme works with India to expand use of renewable energy, increase energy efficiency and the use of electric vehicles, and support green finance mobilisation.

Urban development

Our programme is helping some Indian cities to design major infrastructure projects to address the significant environmental and poverty challenges they face.  By working on cutting-edge projects in selected cities, we aim to demonstrate what is possible for others.

Ease of doing business

Our programme aims to improve India’s business environment, to unlock economic growth within India and open opportunities for UK and international programmes.

Skills

We are supporting the Government of India’s ‘Skill India’ initiative by developing the skills market in mutual priority sectors. We do this through institutional capacity building, promoting international standards and demonstrating sustainable commercial models for providing high-quality skills training.

Financial services

We are helping India to develop and reform its financial markets. Well-functioning financial services are crucial for India’s growth and is an area of UK expertise. This strand supports implementing India’s new bankruptcy law, which is one of India’s most significant economic reforms.
