Details

A link to the requested statistics can be found above. Data is for monthly rents recorded between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016.

This data on the average cost of renting is an extension of the VOA’s published Private Rental Market statistics, however the tables are considered to be outside the scope of Official Statistics since they have not been subject to the same quality assurance procedures.

Please note that the private rental market data is a sample of rents within England. It is not a statistical sample and therefore is not representative of the population and results are not adjusted to produce statistics which are representative of the private rental property market mix for the overall population. Therefore, when looking at national level averages it may also be the case that the sample for a particular property type or number of bedrooms group may not be representative of the regional breakdown by property type and number of bedrooms. As Chart 1(a) in our latest publication shows – which is available at the earlier link – London rents are generally much higher and have different characteristics to other regions.

In the case of detached, one bedroom properties please note that the sample is small and caution should be taken in using this figure.
