In April 2011 a review of potholes was announced by the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport under the Highways Maintenance Efficiency Programme.

This progress report summarises initial findings from that pothole review and outlines how potholes could be dealt with, including:

  • providing improved guidance to local authorities on prioritising roads
  • adopting a whole-life approach to road maintenance
  • using the right technology and materials

The final report on repairing and preventing potholes was published in April 2012.
