Post-16 budget grant

The post-16 budget grant will help institutions with their overall costs in the 2024 to 2025 financial year, following confirmation of the 2024 teacher pay award.

  1. We have updated section 4 of the post-16 budget grant: conditions of grant for financial year 2025 to 2026 (April 2025 to August 2025). We have removed the timeframe by which settings need to spend the money. Providers can spend the funding after the end of academic year 2024 to 2025.

  2. We have published the funding methodology, conditions of grant and institution level allocations for the post-16 budget grant for April 2025 to July 2025. This was previously called the post-16 schools budget grant. From April 2025, the grant includes further education colleges and sixth-form colleges and is called the post-16 budget grant.

  3. We have added the post-16 schools budget grant conditions of grant and allocations for the financial year 2024 to 2025

Details

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) closed on 31 March 2025. All activity has moved to the Department for Education (DfE). You should continue to follow this guidance.

Payments  

 We paid the post-16 schools budget grant for the period from September 2024 to March 2025 in: 

  • November 2024 for local authorities   

  • December 2024 for academies    

From April 2025, the grant includes further education colleges and sixth-form colleges and is called the post-16 budget grant. 

We will pay the post-16 budget grant payment in: 

  • June 2025 for local authorities and further education settings 

  • July 2025 for academies

Conditions of grant 

This sets out the terms and conditions that local authorities and settings must follow for each period of the grant. 

Allocations 

We have published 2 sets of allocations at an institutional level showing the funding amounts we have allocated: 

  • Post-16 schools budget grant allocations September 2024 to March 2025 

  • Post-16 budget grant allocations April 2025 to the end of the academic year 2024 to 2025
