Dear Minister,
Thank you for your letter of 10 July proposing a review of spending limits.
We will now consider carefully how best to do this in your proposed timeframe.
Given the importance of the issues involved, a full and thorough review is likely to take some time and need some resource. We want to ensure that our response and recommendations are well considered, robust, and informed by the right evidence.
We will need to engage fully with political parties and campaigners in the course of this work. We will therefore seek appropriate input and ensure that there is an opportunity for the regulated community to contribute as the work develops. Given the importance of public confidence in the political financing system, we will wish to ensure the views of the voter are also considered as we conduct this work.
I will write again when we have developed a plan, and I would be happy to keep you updated in our regular meetings.
Yours sincerely,
Vijay Rangarajan
Chief Executive
