These are statutory determinations made by the Secretary of State for Health.

GPs, dentists and ophthalmic performers providing NHS services in England must be on the NHS performers list that is managed by NHS England.

The Performers List Regulations 2013 allow GPs and dentists on the list to be suspended in certain circumstances.

Suspension from the list is a neutral act. For example, it is not a punishment, nor a final decision about the GP or dentist’s conduct.

The Secretary of State has determined that suspended GPs and dentists may be entitled to payments by NHS England.
