Applies to England

Park Farm Partners have applied to the Environment Agency to vary two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The applications are to vary licence serial number 7/34/01/G/0019 which authorises the abstraction of water from the Chalk underground strata at Wells-next-the-Sea at National Grid Reference TF 90488 42962, and to vary licence serial number 7/34/03/S/0066 which authorises abstraction of water from the River Stiffkey at Warham at National Grid Reference TF 95574 41878.

Variation of licence serial number 7/34/01/*G/0019 (application reference NPS/WR/018676)

The existing licence authorises abstraction from two boreholes (known as abstraction points 1 and 2). Abstraction is authorised for the purposes of general agriculture (all year abstraction from abstraction point 1 only) and spray irrigation (abstraction between May and September from abstraction point 2 only). Abstraction for general agriculture is authorised at quantities of:

  • 12 cubic metres per day
  • 500 cubic metres per year

Abstraction for spray irrigation is authorised at quantities of:

  • 682 cubic metres per day
  • 20,400 cubic metres per year

The variation applied for is for an additional 100,000 cubic metres per year to be abstracted all year for the purpose of filling a reservoir for subsequent spray irrigation from abstraction point 2. Abstraction point 1 and its associated abstraction quantities and purpose will be removed from this licence.

The proposed licence will authorise abstraction from a borehole at quantities of:

  • 120,400 cubic metres per year
  • 682 cubic metres per day
  • 28.4 cubic metres per hour
  • at a rate of 8 litres per second

Variation of licence serial number 7/34/03/*S/0066 (application reference NPS/WR/017423)

The existing licence authorises abstraction of:

  • 140,000 cubic metres per year
  • 1,330 cubic metres per day
  • at a rate of 15.5 litres per second

Abstraction is licensed for the purpose of filling a reservoir for subsequent spray irrigation and is subject to a flow cessation condition.

The variation applied for is for an additional:

  • 100,000 cubic metres per year
  • 2,000 cubic metres per day
  • at a rate of 39.5 litres per second

The proposed licence will authorise abstraction of:

  • 240,000 cubic metres per year
  • 3,330 cubic metres per day
  • at a rate of 39.5 litres per second

The existing 140,000 cubic metres per year will continue to be restricted by the current flow cessation condition and the additional water will be subject to a higher flow cessation condition to ensure that flows are protected
