Details of the application

P & L Hayes (Farms) Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/033/0053/028 which authorises the abstraction of water from multiple drains and inland waters known as the Twenty Foot River, Sixteen Foot Drain, River Nene (Old Course) and un-named drains within the Middle Level System at March and Doddington, Cambridgeshire.

The proposal will add an additional 4 abstraction reaches for the purpose of spray irrigating crops on new land using the existing licence quantities of 109 cubic metres per hour, 1,091 cubic metres per day and 17,299 cubic metres per year.

Two of the proposed reaches are proposed in the River Nene (old course) within the Middle Level Commissioners Internal Drainage Board District between National Grid References (NGRs) TF 46877 00402 to TF 48134 00368 and TF 46877 00402 to TF 48456 01367. The other two reaches are proposed within the Needham and Laddus Internal Drainage Board District between NGRs TF 47783 01202 to TF 47728 01535 and TF 48461 01391 to TF 48384 01854.

The existing licence consists of several abstraction quantities linked by abstraction reach location, along with a total aggregate limit. This proposal will not alter the abstraction quantities on the licence and all abstractions points are for the purpose of direct spray irrigation.
