The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 involving substantial change to a permit from Grundon Waste Management Limited.

The application contains a description of how the proposed changes may affect:

  • the installation
  • the materials, substances and energy it will use and generate
  • the conditions of its site
  • the source, nature and quantity of its foreseeable emissions and their significant effects on the environment
  • the proposed techniques for preventing, reducing, and monitoring its emissions and preventing and recovering waste
  • and an outline of the main alternatives, if any, considered

5.3 A(1) (a) – Disposal or recovery of hazardous waste with capacity exceeding 10 tonnes per day involving the following activities: ii) physic-chemical treatment; 5.3 (iii) blending or mixing prior to submission to any of the other activities listed in this section or in section 5.1; (iv) – repackaging prior to submission to any of the other activities listed in this section or in section 5.1; S5.4 A(1)(a)(ii) – Disposal of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per day involving physic-chemical treatment; S5.6 A(1)(a) Temporary storage of hazardous waste with a total capacity exceeding 50 tonnes.

The application also proposes additional activities under the activities listed above and activities under the following listed activities: S5.4 A (1)(b) Recovery or a mix of recovery and disposal of non-hazardous waste with a capacity exceeding 75 tonnes per day involving: (i)biological treatment; (ii) pre-treatment of waste for incineration and co-incineration; (iv) treatment in a shredder of metal waste, including waste electrical and electronic equipment and end-of-life vehicles and their components.

Also: Changes to the storage and transfer of non-hazardous waste; and Operation of a gas engine.
