The Environment Agency developed ‘Our waterways - a plan for 2025’ in response to feedback from our customers that the service we provide is not meeting their expectations.
We shared our customers’ concerns and it was important for us to respond quickly to the feedback we received. We developed this plan to focus our resources where they would have the biggest impact for:
- our customers
- the waterway communities we serve
The plan focuses on 4 objectives, and the relevant activities we committed to prioritise to help us achieve them.
The objectives were to:
- keep our staff and customers safe
- make improvements to the customer experience
- secure more income to move towards a financially sustainable service
- describe the future ambition for our waterways and how we will get there
We have reported on our progress against the objectives for 2025 in our mid and end of season reports. We will continue to prioritise these activities to ensure our service continues to improve. Work to develop our next strategy is underway. This will be a 5-year plan which clearly describes our total navigation provision:
- bringing together asset management, service delivery and commercial opportunity
- setting the direction for a future, modern navigation service.
