This document contains the following information: Optional protocol to the Convention against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment: adopted New York on 18 December 2002 and opened for signature on 5 February 2003.

The United Kingdom deposited its instrument of ratification on 10 December 2003 and the Protocol entered into force for the United Kingdom on 22 June 2006. The Protocol was previously published as Miscellaneous no. 16 (2003) Cm 5957.

This Command Paper was laid before Parliament by a Government Minister by Command of Her Majesty. Command Papers are considered by the Government to be of interest to Parliament but are not required to be presented by legislation.
