The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice that has responsibility for mental capacity issues. It:

  • administers enduring and lasting powers of attorney
  • supervises deputies who manage the affairs of others
  • investigates and acts on allegations of abuse by attorneys and deputies.

OPG replaced the Public Guardianship Office in 2007.

This paper was laid before Parliament in response to a legislative requirement or as a return to an address and was ordered to be printed by the House of Commons.
