Omega Proteins Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006).

The application is for a full licence to abstract groundwater from the Carboniferous Limestone at Greystoke Road, Penrith, Cumbria at National Grid Reference NY 5007 2973.

The water will be used for boiler feed, general or process washing, process water and direct potable water supply. The total amount to be abstracted is as follows:

  • 18.7 cubic metres an hour

  • 455 cubic metres a day

  • 105,000 cubic metres a year

Between January and December inclusive in each year.
