Summary of business appointments applications - Craig Oliver

Published 7 June 2017

Sir Craig Oliver left his role as Director of Politics and Communications at No.10 in July 2016.

1. Senior Managing Director at Teneo Blue Rubicon

Sir Craig Oliver, sought advice on accepting a full-time, paid role as Senior Managing Director at Teneo Blue Rubicon (Teneo) - a global strategic consulting firm.

When considering this application, the Committee took into account that whilst Teneo has a specific Government division, Sir Craig declared he would have no involvement with Government in this role.

The Committee noted that Sir Craig had no contractual dealings with Teneo over the last two years of service; neither did he have access to any commercially sensitive information about any of its competitors. Sir Craig’s former department was consulted and they had no propriety concerns about this appointment.

The Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office accepted the Committee’s advice that, in accordance with the Government’s Business Appointment Rules, the role be subject to the following conditions:

  • he should not draw on (disclose or use for the benefit of himself or the organisation to which this advice refers) any privileged information available to him from his time in Crown service; and
  • for two years from his last day in service, he should not become personally involved in lobbying the UK Government on behalf of Teneo, including Teneo Holdings, their subsidiaries or their clients.

The letter containing the Committee’s advice was sent in October 2016.
