NXP Semiconductors UK Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 25/69/014/021 which authorises the abstraction of water from the Chester Pebble Beds and the Collyhurst Sandstone using a borehole at Bramhall Moor Lane, Hazel Grove, Stockport, Cheshire, at National Grid Reference SJ 90695 86715.

The variation applied for is to increase the licensed quantities from 409,000 cubic metres per year, 1,300 cubic metres per day and 54.50 cubic metres per hour to 500,000 cubic metres per year, 1.430 cubic metres per day and 60 cubic metres per hour. The applicant has also proposed an instantaneous rate of 20 litres per second (there is no instantaneous limit on the existing licence but the maximum pump output is specified and must not exceed 38.9 litres per second).
