Published 23 August 2013

Applies to England, Scotland and Wales

This is Freedom of Information request IA/0069312.

1. Request 1

How many full-time male examiners currently conduct the Mod1 and Mod2 motorcycle tests.

2. Request 2

How many part-time male examiners conduct these motorcycle tests.

3. Response

The table below shows the number of male examiners who conduct practical bike tests nationally. This information is broken down by the examiners work pattern, of whether they work full or part-time; and whether they conduct module 1 or both module 1 and 2 tests.

Gender Full or part-time working pattern Module 1 tests conducted Module 2 tests conducted Number of examiners
Male Part-time Yes No 4
Male Part-time Yes Yes 23
Male Full-time Yes No 8
Male Full-time Yes Yes 173
Total       208

Please note that the examiners work pattern is based on whether they work full or part time and does not mean that they will only conduct bike tests on a full or part-time basis.

4. Request 3

How many full-time female examiners conduct the Mod1 and Mod2 motorcycle tests.

5. Request 4

How many female part-time examiners conduct these tests. This information should provide figures for all staff employed at all the current motorcycle test centres.

The table below shows the number of female examiners who conduct practical bike tests nationally. Please note that, although we hold information about the female examiners work patterns this information has been amalgamated due to the low numbers recorded. This is so that an individual can not be identified. If we had not amalgamated this information, it would be exempt under section 40 (2) (personal information) of FoIA as it would not be fair to the individuals concerned. I have attached at Annex A a copy of this exemption in full.

Gender Module 1 tests conducted Module 2 tests conducted Number of examiners
Female Yes Yes 5
