Details of the application

Northumbrian Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The following application has been made to replace on the same terms the time limited conditions on existing licence number 6/33/42/*G/0069 which are due to expire on 31 March 2024:

Source of water, location and National Grid Reference: Groundwater in Norfolk at TM 04 75;

The time limited conditions being: Abstraction from an additional borehole,at rates not to exceed 96 cubic metres per hour, 2,273 cubic metres per day, 411,000 cubic metres per year.

With no change to the total authorised abstraction under this licence of 2,273 cubic metres per day and 454,600 cubic metres per year. Abstraction is required all year for public water supply.

The Applicant has applied to abstract on the same terms as presently authorised. The Applicant opposes reductions being made to the authorised annual abstraction quantities, designed to avoid the risk of waterbody deterioration, being made immediately, citing (amongst other things) over-riding public interest under Regulation 19 of the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017.
