Northumbrian Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number 1/23/01/002 which authorises the abstraction of water from surface water at National Grid Reference NZ 09 64.

The variation applied for is: a change in abstraction volumes, from 6,250 cubic metres per hour, 150,000 cubic metres per day and 54,750,000 cubic metres per year, at an instantaneous rate of 1,737.0 litres per second, increasing to 7,500 cubic metres per hour, 180,000 cubic metres per day and 65,700,000 cubic metres per year, at an instantaneous rate of 2,083.4 litres per second.

Further details are: the removal of condition 6.2 from the current licence, which authorises an aggregate quantity of water to be abstracted in the case of failure of plant or equipment at water treatment works authorised by licence 1/23/01/001. The aggregate quantity of water authorised by condition 6.2 is 10,417 cubic metres per hour, 250,000 cubic metres per day, 91,250,000 cubic metres per year, at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 2,893.0 litres per second. This condition expires on 31 December 2022.
