Details of the application

Northumbrian Water Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for two licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of these applications in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The following application has been made to replace on the same terms time limited conditions to an existing licence: which expired on 31 December 2022:

Application Number: NPS/WR/036706; Licence Number: 7/34/16/*G/0048 Source of water, location: Groundwater in Suffolk; The variation applied for is: Abstraction from additional sources at National Grid Reference (NGR) TM 15 72 and TM 20 78 and TM 07 79 (the latter also for the purpose of transfer for compensatory discharge); abstraction from an additional source at NGR TM 04 79 for a maximum of 10 days per year at 3,637 cubic metres per day and 46 litres per second; increased abstraction from source at NGR TM 11 64 from 455 to 900 cubic metres per day. There will be no change to the total authorised quantities.

The following application has been made to replace on the same terms an existing licence which expired on 31 December 2022: Application Number: NPS/WR/036631; Licence Number: AN/034/0017/001/R01 Source of water, location and NGR: Groundwater in Suffolk at TM 17 68; The licence authorising the abstraction of 67 cubic metres per hour, 1,600 cubic metres per day, 200,000 cubic metres per year.

For all applications the water will be abstracted all year and used for public water supply.

For all applications the Applicant has applied to abstract on the same terms as presently authorised. The Applicant opposes reductions being made to the authorised annual abstraction quantities, designed to avoid the risk of waterbody deterioration, being made immediately, citing (amongst other things) over-riding public interest under Regulation 19 of the Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017.
