The Northern Lighthouse Board and Trinity House are two of the UK’s general lighthouse authorities providing aids to navigation for the safety of the mariner:
- the Northern Lighthouse Board provides aids to navigation around Scotland and the Isle of Man
Trinity House provides aids to navigation around England, Wales, Gibraltar and the Channel Islands
In line with Cabinet Office requirements the Northern Lighthouse Board and Trinity House undergo a substantive review at least once every 3 years. The 2013 combined triennial review report for both bodies, published June 2014, assessed the continuing need for both organisations, and reviewed their existing governance arrangements.
