Norfolk Naturalists Trust trading as Norfolk Wildlife Trust has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is to vary licence serial number AN/033/0050/010 which authorises the abstraction of water from the River Wissey at Hilgay and Methwold at National Grid Reference TL 64384 97910 and two other locations within close vicinity. The water is abstracted for 2 purposes – transfer of water for nature conservation and to fill a storage reservoir for subsequent use for nature conservation. Both purposes allow abstraction between November and March inclusive.

The variation applied for is to increase the overall abstraction from this abstraction point only from 160,000 cubic meters per year to 222,460 cubic meters per year in aggregate across both purposes and the whole licence. There will be no other changes to the quantities authorised by this licence.
