Details

This document outlines the projects granted under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 during 2016 with a primary purpose of basic research, endocrine system / metabolism.

The following projects were granted:

  • regulation of metabolism and cognition: young to old (VGF, small rodents, memory and learning, energy balance)

  • the physiological roles of clathrin diversity (clathrin, biochemistry, cell biology, diabetes)

  • biological significance of endocrine cells in diabetes (glucose, hormone, pancreas, gut, diabetes)

  • the role of genes and environment in diabetes in rodents (diabetes, imaging, drugs, mouse, human)

  • glucose sensing mechanisms in diabetes (hypoglycaemia diabetes central nervous system)

  • mechanisms of adipose (fat) tissue dysfunction (adipose or fat tissue, obesity, lipodystrophy, insulin resistance, diabetes)

  • mechanisms of metabolic regulation in health and disease (cancer, metabolism, obesity, diet, imaging)

  • mechanisms of metabolic disease (obesity, diabetes, adipose, fat)

  • understanding energy balance in health and disease (obesity, metabolism, appetite, cachexia.)

  • impact of exercise and high fat/sugar diet on physical and mental health (voluntary exercise, high fat/high sugar diet, epigenetics, wellbeing, prevention)
