This document provides guidance for organisations that are required to comply with weights and measures law for non-prescribed instruments. Following the guidance is not in itself obligatory but, if you do follow it, this should help your organisation to meet its legal obligations.
The Measuring Instruments Regulations 2016 came into force on 28 December 2016 under the New Legislative Framework (NLF), a common set of principles developed to improve the European internal market. The regulations focus on making procedures more consistent. They replace the Measuring Instruments (Non-Prescribed Instruments) Regulations 2006, but the existing technical requirements are unchanged, so this guidance remains relevant. Specific guidance on the provisions introduced by the NLF will be published by Regulatory Delivery early in 2017.
