The Intellectual Property Office (IPO) will administer the scheme in NI. We will update this page when we can accept applications

The EU recently introduced a scheme, under Regulation (EU) 2023/2411, that protects NAGIs  for craft and industrial products across Member States. This scheme now applies in NI under the Windsor Framework. NAGIs protected under this EU scheme will be enforced in NI.

A NAGI protects the name of a product which has a strong link to a specific geographical area. Under the EU scheme, at least one of the production steps of the product must take place in that area. A NAGI is not owned by an individual business. Anyone can use the protected name if they make the product according to the product specification (this details the specific characteristics and methods of production of the product).
