Nick Fecitt has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from the River Brathay at Skelwith Force, Ambleside, Cumbria at National Grid Reference NY 34136 03442.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 13,380 cubic metres an hour
  • 328,320 cubic metres a day
  • 72,230,400 cubic metres a year

Between January and December inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for hydro-electric power generation via 2 inclined axial flow turbines. All water abstracted will be returned to the River Brathay at National Grid Reference NY 34175 03424.

Nick Fecitt has also applied to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the River Brathay at the abstraction point specified above.

The object of impounding water by means of the works is to create an intake to effect the abstraction of water, to control the rate of abstraction and to protect a minimum flow in the source below the abstraction point.
