Details

This guide for NHS foundation trusts sets out Monitor’s rules on borrowing. It follows the generally accepted principles used by financial institutions to determine the amounts of loans to non-profit making organisations.

The prudential borrowing code requirements in section 41 of the NHS Act 2006 were repealed with effect from 1 April 2013 by the Health and Social Care Act 2012. The guidance on this page is therefore no longer applicable to NHS foundation trusts but this page has been retained for reference.
