Members of the UK civil protection community will be aware of widely-held aspirations to improve the National Resilience Extranet (NRE) service and exploit new technology to meet the increasing demands for collaboration, efficiency and interoperability in emergency planning and response work. As the contract with the existing provider is approaching its end in September 2013, the Cabinet Office is considering the options for continuing and improving the NRE service.
As part of their ongoing commitment to improving the UK’s resilience to disruptive challenges, the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) recently commissioned and sponsored Niteworks to undertake a short research project - with input from industry partners - to inform the Cabinet Office’s approach to the NRE.
The reports and presentations detailing Niteworks’ interpretation of the requirement, and their research findings, are available above. Permission for their publication has been granted.
Cabinet Office will consider the content of these reports alongside the demands of NRE users and Government policy, to determine the appropriate approach to advancing the NRE. Updates on this project will be communicated to all stakeholders as work progresses. In the meantime, please contact NREenquiries@cabinet-office.x.gsi.gov.uk for more information.
