The Environment Agency has received an application to vary an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 (that does not involve substantial change) from Northumbrian Water Limited.

This variation application is to permit an existing un-permitted storm activity from Newbiggin Sewage Treatment Works. The new activity is a storm sewage discharge for flows over 375l/s via the short sea outfall. The existing permitted storm sewage discharge via the long sea outfall will pass flows over 630l/s.
