National Trust (Renewable Energy) Limited have applied to the Environment Agency for a licence .
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from the Lingmell Gill at Wasdale, Cumbria CA20 1EX at National Grid Reference NY 18889 07234.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 76 cubic metres an hour
- 1,815 cubic metres a day
- 662,256 cubic metres a year
At a maximum instantaneous rate of 21 litres per second, all year.
The water will be used for hydropower generation with a Turgo type turbine with an installed capacity of 12kW and will be returned to the Lingmell Gill at National Grid Reference: NY 18292 07367.
The same applicant has also applied to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Lingmell Gill at National Grid Reference NY 18889 07234.
The purpose of impounding water by means of the works is to install a screened intake weir to facilitate the above abstraction.
