Revised National Networks National Policy Statement

This revised National Networks National Policy Statement (NNNPS) has been laid before Parliament (6 March 2024) and is subject to parliamentary consideration and debate.

Parliament has 21 sitting days in which to debate the revised NNNPS after which it will come into force subject to Parliamentary approval and formal designation by government.

The existing NNNPS remains in force until the revised version has been designated.

The National Networks National Policy Statement (NNNPS) sets out:

  • the need for development of nationally significant road, rail and strategic rail freight interchange projects
  • how applications for national network projects will be assessed

The NNNPS has been reviewed to ensure that it remains fit for purpose in supporting the government’s commitments for appropriate development of infrastructure for strategic road, rail and rail freight interchanges.
