UNDP commits to support member states to better monitor and implement the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by collating and sharing global best practice – and innovations – in partnership with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and key stakeholders. This shared knowledge of coordination and independent monitoring mechanisms will support national implementation and monitoring of the Convention (Art. 33)

UNDP commits to complete the review and repository of good practices by end-2019 in partnership with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and other partners

Across all SDGs, UNDP commits to promote the Washington Group’s recommendations to improve data disaggregation and address data gaps in the areas of disability, gender and ageing, through the development of methodologies and partnerships. In particular, UNDP commits to actively promote the Washington Group’s Short Set of Disability Questions in the development of SDG indicators to help ensure that persons with disabilities are better represented in public institutions (Goal 16.7.1).

UNDP will achieve its commitment through the implementation of its 2018-2021 Strategic Plan.

Commitments for people with disabilities in Humanitarian Contexts

UNDP commits to disability inclusive disaster recovery and risk reduction measures. We will ensure our activities support Persons with Disabilities (PWD) before and after disasters and extreme events. UNDP will develop and launch Guidelines to assess disaster impacts on PWD and prioritize recovery assistance for PWD. UNDP will ensure disability-inclusive disaster risk reduction measures and support disability-informed policy and planning frameworks in at least 5 countries.

The UN Partnership on the Rights of Person with Disability (UNPRPD) will create more robust human resources arrangements for the Partnership Secretariat; progressively expand the number of joint UN programmes on the rights of person with disabilities supported by the Partnership; create workstream on UN system capacity development at country level and another on addressing disability in special development situations.

Timeframe: Medium-term strengthening of the UNPRPD will be completed by 2019/2020.
