Mr Brian Fawcett, Mrs Susan Fawcett and Mr Robert Fawcett have applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application (in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a full licence to abstract (take) water from Foss Gill, New House Farm, Bishopdale, Leyburn at National Grid Reference (NGR) SD 95816 83677.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 144 cubic metres an hour
  • 3,456 cubic metres a day
  • 773,585 cubic metres a year

The water will be used for hydroelectric power generation.

The applicants have also applied to the Environment Agency for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of the Foss Gill at New House Farm, bishopdale, at NGR SD 95816 83677.

By constructing a new weir, water will be impounded to allow abstraction to a header tank. All water abstracted will be discharged at NGR SD 96459 83635.
