An application has been made to the Environment Agency by Mr Anthony Locke. The Environment Agency are required to give notice of this application.

The application is for a full licence to abstract water from:

Dob Gill at Bobgill Bridge
Thirlmere
Cumbria

At National Grid Reference NY 31530 13820.

The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates and periods:

  • 50 litres a second
  • 180 cubic metres an hour
  • 4,320 cubic metres a day
  • 1,340,280 cubic metres a year.

All year.

The water will be used for hydro-electric power generation. All water abstracted will be returned from the turbine house to the same watercourse (Dob Gill) at National Grid Reference NY 31680 13940

An application is also being made for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow of Dob Gill at National Grid Reference NY 31530 13820 to enable the above abstraction.

The impounding structure will consist of a low wall incorporating a coanda screen with 2 millimetres bar spacing to prevent fish and invertebrates from entering the system.
