Parliamentary briefing of February 2011 reports on the income distribution for charities in England and Wales.
The report shows as of December 2010 the total number of registered charities is 180,000 with an income of £53.9billion.
The shape of the sector differs between the larger charities and those with an income below £10,000, in particular:
- 84% of the charities with an income below £10,000 only share 5% of the total income
- about 6% of charities receive 90% of the total income
- the top 500 charities receive almost 50% of the total income
