The MOJ Areas of Research Interest (ARI) publication was delivered by the Evidence and Partnerships Hub in 2025. It sets out MoJ’s medium-term research priorities, aligned with the department’s strategic objectives for the justice system. It highlights where new research can have the most impact for policy and practice and has been the foundation of our partnerships with academia.
The ARI and our broader academic engagement reflect MOJ’s commitment to working in partnership with academic experts to maximise the use and impact of external knowledge for our decision-making.
Since publishing our previous ARI in 2020, the Evidence and Partnerships Hub has established an Academic Network of over 400 experts for collaboration and expertise, facilitated over 20 academic secondments to directly embed academic experts within MoJ, and run over 40 seminars for colleagues across MoJ to share the latest academic research and their implications for policy and practice. You can read more about academic engagement stemming from the 2020 ARI here and in the knowledge exchange impact infographic.
