MIN 677 (M+F) Flag protocol and security alert testing during the period of National Mourning

Published 9 September 2022

This guidance was withdrawn on

This notice expired following the period of National Mourning.

Summary

The Royal Household has announced the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

As a mark of respect for this country’s longest reigning monarch, there will be a period of National Mourning until Her Majesty the Queen’s State Funeral. The day of the State Funeral will be a ‘Day of National Mourning’.

In line with this we request that flags flown on all British marine vessels be flown at half-mast during this period.

British flag protocol issued by the flags and heraldry committee gives details on the correct flag flying protocol. A copy of this document is available here: www.flaginstitute.org/wp/uk-flags/british-flag-protocol

Ships are also requested to suspend routine testing of Ship Security Alert Systems (SSAS) in UK waters to avoid any inadvertent security alerts during this time.

We thank you for your cooperation in this matter during this period of national mourning.
