Agenda Item 1 – Welcome and introductions
Madeleine Sumption opened the 196th Committee meeting and welcomed attendees.
A Home Office Representative provided an update on behalf of Claire Smith. This included an update on engagement with wider government on MAC‑recommended salary thresholds, alongside updates on the Adult Social Care route, the settlement consultation, and Home Office senior staffing changes.
Holly White provided an update on work relating to the Temporary Shortage List (TSL) and the Talent Review Call for Evidence. She also updated the Committee on wider engagement and governance matters.
Agenda Item 2 – Talent Review: Project planning
Members of the Secretariat set out the proposed approach for the Talent Review, including timelines, stakeholder engagement activity, and the analytical approach, which was agreed by the Committee.
Agenda item 3 – Migrant Journey Update
Members of the Secretariat provided an update on the final draft of the Migrant Journey paper, including changes to the analysis since the February Committee meeting and the proposed publication timelines.
Agenda item 4 – TSL Shortage Assessments
Members from the Secretariat summarised the evidence assessed for TSL access and the approach used to determine which occupations should be taken forward.
The Committee discussed the occupations under consideration, the assessment framework, and next steps.
Agenda item 5 – Impact of migration on housing
Members of the Secretariat provided an update on two commissioned research projects on the impact of migration on housing. Committee members were invited to provide feedback on the papers ahead of publication.
Agenda item 6 – Employer responses project
Members of the Secretariat provided an update on proposed employer research projects examining responses to recent migration policy changes. The update outlined the intended focus of the work, with timelines yet to be finalised.
Agenda item 7 – AOB
The Secretariat and Committee discussed access to IT.
