Agenda Item 1 – Welcome and introductions
Madeleine Sumption opened the 199th Committee meeting and welcomed attendees.
Claire Smith from the Home Office provided an update on the MAC’s recommendations from the Salaries Review, the immigration model for social care, and reforms to sponsorship license issuing.
Holly White provided an update on MAC workstreams, including the Talent Review, horizon scanning work, publication of the Housing Literature review, and a letter sent to the Home Secretary on the MAC’s recommended data priorities.
The Committee congratulated Jo Swaffield for being awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours for her services to economics.
Agenda Item 2 – TSL: Draft report
Members of the Secretariat provided updates on feedback received from members of the Labour Market Evidence Group (LMEG) relating to occupation assessments for the Temporary Shortage List (TSL) and outlined plans for publication of the report. The Committee discussed approaches to addressing this feedback and provided overall comments on the draft report.
Agenda item 3 – Talent Review: Research & engagement update
Members of the Secretariat summarised evidence that was received during recent roundtable meetings, including stakeholder views on the Global Talent and Innovator Founder visa routes. Committee members discussed the evidence received and its relevance to the Talent Review.
Agenda item 4 – Talent Review: Recommendations discussion
The Committee discussed potential areas for consideration in the Talent Review and the evidence required to support the review’s findings.
Agenda item 5 – Annual Report: Youth Mobility Scheme chapter
The Committee provided feedback on a draft of the Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) chapter of the MAC’s upcoming annual report.
