Agenda Item 1 – Welcome and introductions
Madeleine Sumption opened the 197th Committee meeting and welcomed attendees.
Claire Smith provided an update on MAC recommended salary thresholds, concession requests and earned settlement policy.
Holly White provided updates on the ongoing work relating to the Temporary Shortage List (TSL), forthcoming MAC publications, the current process for recruitment of the MAC chair and the departure of a member of the Secretariat.
Agenda Item 2 – Talent Review CfE
A member of the Secretariat provided a verbal update on responses received to the Call for Evidence for the Talent Review, followed by discussion with Committee members.
Agenda item 3 – Talent Review: UKVI perspectives
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) delivered a presentation on their perspectives on the Global Talent and Innovator Founder routes.
Committee members discussed the presentation and raised questions.
Agenda item 4 – TSL: Cross-sector skills actions
The Secretariat welcomed presentations from the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) on cross‑sector skills actions, including skills, growth and reforms to the Growth and Skills Levy.
DfE provided updates on Technical Excellence Colleges (TECs). Further discussion covered approaches to addressing skills shortages, skills mismatches and structural skills shortages across sectors.
The session concluded with a Q&A, during which Committee members raised questions.
Agenda item 5 – TSL: Job Plans Assessments
Members of the Secretariat summarised the occupations in scope for the TSL, including those proposed for inclusion and exclusion, as well as exploitation risks and the outcomes and assessment tests.
The Committee agreed the scope of the Job Plans assessments, including the occupations proposed for inclusion and exclusion from the TSL, and the approach to presenting exploitation risks within the TSL framework.
Agenda item 6 – AOB
A member of the Secretariat provided an update on the recent Labour Market Evidence Group (LMEG) meeting.
Madeleine Sumption noted the departure of a member of the Secretariat and Committee members expressed thanks for their contribution.
