Agenda item 1 – Welcome and introductions
Brian Bell opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees.
Agenda item 2 – Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates
Holly White provided a secretariat update including the new role of the Labour Markets Evidence Group (LMEG). Bids have been received for the Housing Project with the aim of beginning the project over the next few months.
Agenda item 3 – Financial requirements for family visa
The Committee discussed the final draft of the Financial Requirements report. Discussions focused on the impacts of the report and how to communicate the recommendations around each of the minimum income requirements. The committee also ran through final timelines for publication of the report.
Agenda item 4 – White Paper, Quad and future commissions
A representative from the Home Office gave an update on the published Immigration White Paper and explained timelines for the delivery of policies set out in the paper. The committee discussed the contents of the paper. Future commissions for the MAC were also discussed, including timelines and scope of the commissions. The secretariat presented an update on the ways of working for the Quad (LMEG).
Agenda item 5 – Fiscal analysis
Brian Bell provided an update on the fiscal analysis, explaining the methodology of both the static and dynamic fiscal models. The committee discussed the methodology. Brian outlined plans for the publication of the methodology paper later this year.
