Agenda Item 1 – Welcome and introductions
Brian Bell opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees.
Agenda Item 2 – Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates
A representative from the Home Office provided an update on the new skilled worker threshold immigration rules being implemented.
Holly White provided an update on MAC workstreams, including planning for the annual report, updates on the work being done by the Labour Market Evidence Group (LMEG).
Agenda item 3 – Salary Review
The committee discussed the proposed approach for the upcoming review of salary thresholds and discounts. The conversation focused on identifying additional information and evidence needed to further refine the research question. Technical aspects were also discussed, including the relevant datasets and the analytical approach to be used in the review.
The committee also discussed the Temporary Shortage List (TSL). The discussion highlighted the current immigration rules relating to the TSL and how these rules may impact the planned analysis.
Agenda item 4 – Annual Report
The committee discussed the approach to structuring chapters in the upcoming annual report. The committee also considered existing research in this area that could contribute to the literature review and inform the analytical approach.
Agenda item 5 – Fiscal update
Brian Bell and a member of the Secretariat provided an update on the fiscal analysis, explaining the methodology of both the static and dynamic fiscal models. The committee discussed the methodology. Brian outlined plans for the publication of the methodology paper later this year.
Agenda item 6 – Lessons learnt for recent publications.
The committee discussed reflections from the IT and Engineering Professionals Review and the Family Visa Financial Requirements Review.
