Agenda Item 1 – Welcome and Introductions
1. Brian Bell opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees.
Agenda Item 2 – Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates, plus minutes from previous meeting
2. Claire Smith provided an update on activity in the Home Office, referencing the recent migration announcements and commissions to the MAC on the Immigration Salary List and Graduate route. The Home Office had been in conversation across Whitehall on the migration changes, with further detail to come from the Home Secretary.
3. Holly White provided an update on work within the Secretariat. Holly highlighted that the annual report had been recently published and explained the potential impact of new commissions on current and future work streams.
4. Brian Bell gave an overview of his recent meetings with individuals in the higher education sector, including Universities UK. Brian also met with the new Home Secretary, James Cleverly.
Agenda Item 3 – New commissions update
5. A member of the Secretariat provided an overview of the recently announced Immigration Salary List and noted that the MAC are awaiting the formal commissioning letter from the Home Secretary or Minister for Legal Migration and Delivery. The Committee discussed the potential scope and timings.
6. A member of the Secretariat provided an update on the recent announcement of the Graduate Route commission. The Committee discussed the potential scope of the report.
Agenda Item 4 – Seasonal worker teach-in
7. Home Office officials joined the meeting and provided an overview of the seasonal worker scheme for the Committee and Secretariat. Committee members sought clarity on details of the route.
Agenda Item 5 – Seasonal worker CfE update
8. A member of the Secretariat provided a summary of the initial findings of the MAC’s seasonal worker inquiry call for evidence. Committee members provided comments on the content of this update and suggestions for further exploration.
Agenda Item 6 – Seasonal worker four nations view
9. A member of the Secretariat provided an overview of the seasonal work scheme across the devolved nations. Committee members commented on key findings in the update and provided suggestions for areas of investigation.
Agenda Item 7 – Seasonal worker skeleton
10. A member of the Secretariat provided a skeleton for the seasonal worker report. Committee provided comment on the content of the skeleton and made suggestions on sections that could be reframed.
Agenda Item 8 – Adzuna and Lightcast comparison
11. A member of the Secretariat provided an update on investigations into the vacancy data platforms Adzuna and Lightcast. Committee and the Secretariat agreed on next steps to continue this process.
