Agenda Item 1: Welcome and introductions
1. Brian Bell opened the meeting and welcomed attendees.
Agenda Item 2: Revealing Reality employer research updates
2. Revealing Reality presented emerging themes from their research on the impacts of the ending of freedom of movement. They addressed questions from the committee.
Agenda item 3: Home Office, MAC Secretariat and committee updates
3. Della McVay provided an update on Home Office business. A summary of the MAC Annual Report which was published on Tuesday 13 December was presented to ministers. Work is ongoing on policy development of the new illegal migration policy which was announced early in the week.
4. Toby Nutley updated the committee on work of the secretariat. The secretariat held a cross Whitehall meeting and annual stakeholder forum in the last month. Toby and the secretariat met with a Home Office policy team to discuss the proposed commission on minimum income requirements. Recruitment of a new committee member is still ongoing. Toby thanked everyone for their work on the Annual Report. Toby announced that he is moving on from his role as head of the MAC secretariat.
5. The secretariat provided an overview of the press coverage of the MAC Annual Report.
Agenda item 4: Evidence projects – themes, priorities, and next steps
6. The secretariat provided an overview of five suggested evidence projects and asked the committee for comments. Further scoping to be discussed with committee leads and in the January committee meeting.
Agenda item 5: Fiscal modelling
7. The secretariat presented their work on assessing fiscal impacts of migrant workers and asked for the committee’s view on overall approach to the work.
Agenda item 6: Data project
8. The secretariat presented a list of datasets which are currently used by the MAC and their uses.
Agenda item 7: Quarterly evidence pack
9. The secretariat presented the quarterly evidence pack to the committee.
Agenda item 8: AOB
10. Brian thanked the secretariat for their work on the Annual Report on behalf of the committee.
