Agenda item 1 - Welcome and introductions

1. The chair welcomed Maria Del Castillo back to the MAC Secretariat. The minutes for the December MAC meeting were agreed.

Agenda item 2 - Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates

2. Paul Regan updated the MAC on Home Office work. He discussed the UK’s future skills-based immigration system White Paper published on 19th December 2018 indicating that there will be engagement on the contents of the White Paper over the course of the year.

3. Jennifer Bradley, on behalf of the MAC Secretariat, updated the Committee on the project management of the current full review of the Shortage Occupation list. The MAC is now thinking about the future role of the Committee.

Agenda item 3 - Update on Call for Evidence Responses

4. Anita Singh provided an update on the responses we have received to the online Call for evidence. The Call for evidence closed on 14th January and had received well over 500 responses. A breakdown of the responses was given to the MAC. The next steps for analysis were discussed.

Agenda item 4 – SOL Indicators

5. Sam O’Sullivan gave an update on the latest analysis of the indicators used to assess occupations in shortage and presented the preliminary data and job titles using this method of analysis. The methodology was reviewed and there was a discussion as to how to use the indicators to best assess shortages.

Agenda item 5 - SOL Outline report

6. Jennifer Bradley presented the draft layout for the final report. There was discussion as to how to organise the chapters in the report and what further information could be included. It was suggested we include comparisons with other countries.

Agenda item 6 – SOL Stakeholder engagement: Regional events

7. Keval Mulji provided an update on the process of engagement with stakeholders. The Secretariat are currently undertaking regional round tables around the UK, including Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Agenda item 7 – MAC Tailor Review

8. Tracy Liennard provided an update on the change in sponsorship for the MAC. The Committee is now sponsored by the Home Office Sponsorship Unit. The MAC is now due a review and it was agreed for this to take place in the next few months.
