Midland Quarry Products Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for 2 licences.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract (take) water from Whitwick Quarry, Dacite, secondary ‘B’ aquifer within an area bounded by National Grid References SK 44419 16245, SK 45172 15938, SK 45298 15243 and SK 44546 15273 to transfer it to Grace Dieu Brook at National Grid Reference SK 44440 15270 without intervening use and to transfer it for subsequent dust suppression and wheel washing use detailed in the full licence below.

The application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 252 cubic metres an hour
  • 2,000 cubic metres a day
  • 767,500 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate of 70 litres per second
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Abstraction will take place up to 8 hours each day

Further details: Water abstracted for dewatering will be first transferred into a settlement lagoon which is then gravity fed into the Grace Dieu Brook under discharge permit T/57/22480/T.

Midland Quarry Products Limited has also applied for a full licence to abstract water from Whitwick Quarry, Dacite, secondary ‘B’ aquifer within the same abstraction area. The water will be used for dust suppression and wheel washing.

The application to abstract water for dust suppression as follows:

  • 15 cubic metres an hour
  • 150 cubic metres a day
  • 37,500 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate of 4.2 litres per second
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The application to abstract water for wheel washing as follows:

  • 14.5 cubic metres an hour
  • 145 cubic metres a day
  • 36,250 cubic metres a year
  • At an instantaneous rate of 40 litres per second
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Water for wheel washing and dust suppression will be taken from water being dewatered (transferred) from the quarry.
