The Environment Agency has received a new bespoke application for an environmental permit under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 from Envar Composting Limited.

Application for New Bespoke Waste Operation - Two activities (Non-hazardous HCI/Hazardous Waste Transfer and Clinical Waste Transfer).
Proposed to accept 50,000 tonnes per annum.

• Waste transfer station operations will take place in a new purpose-built building with designated concrete bays, and containers for the storage of waste as per the plan. The building will benefit from impermeable surfacing throughout, made up of sealed jointed concrete slabs. No emissions to land, water, air or sewer.

• No wastes shall be stored externally apart from the enclosed asbestos roll on roll off container.

• Clinical waste will be stored within designated fully enclosed containers inside the WTS. Offensive wastes will be stored bagged awaiting onward disposal and shall not be mixed with other wastes.

• Wastes will predominantly be non-hazardous wastes, with small proportion of clinical wastes (10,000tpa)). Hazardous wastes to be accepted will be Asbestos and a list of some other common hazardous wastes. Clinical waste will include nappies and sharps and other appropriately contained clinical and offensive wastes.

• Wastes will be accepted for storage and bulking up prior to transfer to a suitably permitted alternative facility for further recovery or disposal. Treatment will only consist of manual sorting, and separation, storage, bulking up and transfer off site for further recovery/disposal. (No mechanical physical treatment). No treatment of clinical waste undertaken, only storage and bulking up prior to transfer.
