Details of the application

Mark Burgess Watson has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for an impoundment licence and a transfer licence to abstract water from an unnamed tributary of the Sor Brook at Wroxton.

The impoundment application is for a licence to obstruct or impede the flow at Padsdon Bottom, Wroxton Mill, Wroxton, Banbury, OX15 6EZ at National Grid Reference (NGR) SP 39850 40587.

Water will be obstructed or impeded by building a weir to create a head for abstraction.

The application is also for a licence to abstract water at Padsdon Bottom, Wroxton Mill, Wroxton, Banbury, OX15 6EZ at NGR SP 39850 40587, to transfer it to a newly constructed leat without intervening use.

The transfer application is to abstract water as follows:

  • 39.60 cubic metres an hour
  • 950.40 cubic metres a day
  • 242,827 cubic metres a year
  • between 1 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

The water will be used for the purpose of power generation.

This is a proposal to install a weir and intake structure at the head of a newly constructed 150m leat. This will supply a backshot waterwheel to power a workshop generating approximately 1,051 KiloWatt Hours per year. The scheme is non-consumptive and all abstracted water will be discharged back in to the river immediately downstream of the waterwheel. No fish or eel pass is required but an eel/lamprey brush or pass will be installed at the scheme intake. A hands off flow condition will be used to protect the river flow and habitats.
